Working for an MEP is an exciting and rewarding job. But like in any workplace, there are times when you may need advice or help with your employment – even if you only have very small problem, or you simply need help understanding your rights. At other times, we need to put forward a collective case for improvements in our working conditions.
So it is more important than ever that MEPs’ Assistants and Stagiaires speak with one voice. The GMB Brussels Branch is the only Trade Union representing the Assistants and Stagiaires of MEPs. We represent staff of MEPs of all nationalities and all political groups.
The GMB Brussels Branch was at the forefront of the campaign for the Assistants’ Statute, which since 2009 given Assistants new rights and certainty in their work. But even still, Assistants and Stagiaires lack some basic working rights which most other workers, both in the European Institutions and across Europe, would consider absolutely fundamental – including, for example, the right to a fair hearing in a dispute, or the right to be consulted on changes in the workplace. We are here to make sure that Assistants’ voices are heard.
Membership of the Branch gives you the right to help, advice and representation from our trained representatives when you need it – however small or large your problem may seem.
We can offer you the best of both worlds. Our members and officers are all based in Brussels and fully understand the work you do. But at the same time, as part of the GMB Trade Union with over 610,000 members, we can call upon greater resources when our members need them.
By joining, you are also helping us to put forward the case for improvements in the working conditions of MEPs’ staff – and you get the opportunity to get involved in our campaigns.
